our quake here ever feels

Anything at all times, it rumbles. It roars, it shivers, it quakes. It growls. Its torso tremors, it shakes shock, it rakes rock. Cracks appearing where the softness once stewed, new lines drawn on old maps.

What if a fault was not a fracture but a future, not an attribution of blame but immolating a blessing.

hylozoic/desires’ Our Quake Here Ever Feels was conceived as a Radio Station tapping into planetary turbulence. Sounds of seismographs that track, trace and record earthquakes around the globe are transposed onto a speculative musical score. Weaving together percussive responses and poetic interjections, this is a story of the earth’s tectonic core, its burning mantle, the trauma of extractivism and its cry for compassion.

Combining sonified seismograms, improvised percussion and poetic interventions into a flowing polylogue, the sound piece reflects upon our dependence and entanglements with planetary forces that operate at time-scales beyond comprehension - from the geologic to the catastrophic.

‘our quake here ever feels’ was commissioned by lab’bel for five radio station - a sound art exhibition curated by seb emina and silvia guerra.
